English Corner went for a Shopping Trail on 3 July - from the pictures, I guess it looks more like an EATING trail. We had the opportunity to sample some food but what was great was spending time with friends!!

English Corner - 8 May

Today was our 2nd lesson at English Corner. We had friends from NUS, FuChun, NYP and RP join us... and we got to meet new friends from RP too. Since many of us are still strangers to each other, fwe played a game of FRIENDS BINGO to help us get to know each other better.

It was HOT playing in front of Republic Poly's Reflection Pond but we had FUN...!!

Speed Dating @ English Corner

Speed dating is a formalized matchmaking process whose purpose is to encourage people to meet a large number of new people. .. that was just that at English Corner today BUT not so that we can find a boyfriend/girlfriend.

Instead we practiced how to make an impression with someone new while assuming to be somebody else. There were 如花 and Sha-la-la. If you were in class - can you let the rest know who you were...?? Type your name on LEAVE A MESSAGE.

Holiday Activities

This is to inform you that the the MOVIE & POPIAH NIGHT on September 8 (Saturday) has been canceled due to poor sign-up. Only 2 students signed-up. We understand that many students are working during the holidays and this could be the reason why so few responded.

We do apologies for those who really wanted to watch a movie together. We will organize it again perhaps when school is in session again.

English Corner or Golf Lesson

It was BOTH!! Although all of us will probably never be Tiger Woods, we had fun!! Some did really well, while others were... er... so-so. Well, it looks simple but it's really not easy as it requires lots of control. Anyway, thank to Rachael (or more affectionately known as "Ra-Ra") for showing us how to putt.

Sayonara, River!!

We say "goodbye" to River who will be going back to China on July 16. River has been a part of the English Corner for about a year and it has been fun having him around. We want to thank him for his friendship and wish him well for his future. Take care, River... and see you in Singapore in 2 years time, yeah..??!!

BOAT ROWING & BBQ
(July 21)

It was raining a bit but we all had a great time at the Boat Rowing event... even though all of us were completely drenched. No, we didn't fall into the water but we splashed each other whenever our boats came close to each other. The days ended with a great BBQ - there were lots of food, fun... and new friendships made that day. This will indeed be an unforgettable day for many of us.

Make Your Own Mother's Day Gift
(April 28)

We had great fun at the MAKE YOUR OWN MOTHER'S DAY GIFT - someone commented that this was one of the greatest day he's had and will never forget it... and in addition to this, he even had an opportunity to make some jewelery for his mom.

It was indeed great fun to see them deciding on the colours of the beads, its design and finally putting everything together. Actually, all of them did great - the jeweleries that the students made look great... and expensive!!

We had our first session in the new academic year on April 21 - and we had a record number of people attend the English Corner - 21 people attended the class!! We are excited to see the many old friends again and also meeting new ones.

This year is going to be an even more exciting year. In addition to the weekly English lessons, we are going to have more social activities for our international students friends as well.

Chinese New Year Dinner on February 11

What an enjoyable evening we had! There were 32 International Students, mostly from the Republic Poly who came for dinner hosted by the English Corner. We played games, sang Chinese New Year songs, had “Lao Yu Sheng”… and most importantly, made a lot of new friends with fellow international students and Singaporeans friends. Some students were also invited for home visits during Chinese New Year.

A Walking Tour - The Padang & The Singapore River (Jan 20)

We walked for about 2 1/2 hours and leant about the history of Singapore and discover treasures from multiracial Singapore’s colonial past and its modern present. We visited the Saint Andrew's Cathedral, City Hall, Supreme Court, Victoria Memorial Hall, took pictures with Sir Stamford Raffles (founder of modern Singapore)... and the Merlion. We had fun even though it started to rain towards the end of our tour. Will we have another tour soon...?? well, you will just need to come back to the blog and find out for yourself!!

Here's the poem that we read at the English Corner today - River & Elaine concentrating on their class assignment. Towards the end of the class, the students wrote and shared a short reflection about what they learnt with everyone. I thought everyone did really well - keep it up!!

Boat Rowing

We had a great time at the Boat Rowing at Kallang River last Saturday (Oct 14) - many of us have never done this before and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves - well, at least I did :-) Many of us got WET not because we fell into the water but people were splashing buckets of water at each other. Towards the end of the session, there was a mini boat rowing competition and the boat that Qiao Xiao and I were in WON...!!
